Where Memories Live
Flanders Fields is a landscape that invites you to slow down. Amid historic towns, quiet cemeteries, and vast fields, you’ll discover the stories of World War I right where they unfolded. Here, impressive heritage, hospitality, and tranquility go hand in hand.
From the daily Last Post in Ypres to the serene beauty of Tyne Cot Cemetery and the relaxed atmosphere of Poperinge, this accessible route lets you experience Flanders Fields at your own pace.

Begin your journey in Ypres, the undisputed gateway to Flanders Fields. On the Grote Markt, the impressive Cloth Hall dominates the cityscape. Inside, the In Flanders Fields Museum tells the story of World War I through personal testimonies and interactive exhibits.
Stroll along the ramparts, enjoy the charming city center, and end the day at the Menin Gate during the daily Last Post. For nearly a century, this solemn ceremony has paid tribute to the fallen.
Today you’ll travel through a landscape deeply scarred by the war. In Diksmuide, the Yser Tower tells the story of the war. Along the Yser River, you’ll discover how water played a crucial role during the conflict. Further east lies Passchendaele, known worldwide for one of the fiercest battles of the war. The Passchendaele 1917 Memorial Museum literally brings visitors closer to life on the front lines. Along the way, you’ll visit some of the region’s most impressive cemeteries, including Tyne Cot Cemetery, the largest Commonwealth cemetery in the world.

While the front was just a few kilometers away, Poperinge offered a rare sense of normalcy during the war. The town became a refuge for soldiers who could take a brief respite from the horrors of the front. A visit to the Talbot House brings this remarkable history back to life. In this authentic soldiers’ home, time seems to stand still. Discover the chapel in the attic, the cozy garden, and the stories of thousands of soldiers who found solace here. Round out your visit with a stroll through the charming town center or a tour of the brewery.
Flanders Fields is not just any destination. It is a landscape of stories, memories, and encounters that lingers in your mind long after you’ve returned home. The best way to explore Flanders Fields is by car. The most important World War I memorial sites are scattered across the rolling landscape of the Westhoek.
